Work From Home Moms, How to Make Money!

Written By Father of Three on Thursday, February 28, 2008 | 9:15 PM

Many single work from home moms simply do not have enough money. They work as hard as they can in their jobs, but it is just not enough to pay the bills. If you are in this situation, then you already know that getting a second job is simply not an option. Your kids only have one parent in the picture, and they need you to be around. One option to help you make ends meet is to find a way to make money from your home.

Finding a way to earn money at home requires some creativity. You will need to find something that you can do while still giving your children the attention they need. One option is to offer your home as a place where your friends can bring their children for babysitting. Even if it is just a couple of nights a week or on the weekends, you can make some decent money watching other people’s kids. Since you will be babysitting, interacting with the kids is required, and this means you will have time to spend with your own kids as well.

As long as there are no allergies in your home, pet sitting can be another way for you to bring in some extra money. When your friends take a vacation, they can bring their pets to your home to be cared for. Or, better yet, you can go to their home and care for their pets while they are gone.

Can you write? Many people find that working as a freelance writer is a good way to earn some side cash. While many part time freelance jobs don’t pay a ton, they can help you make ends meet when you don’t have enough to pay your bills. Writing is not the only type of freelance work available, either. If you can design a website, you can earn money as a freelance web designer. Graphic artists can also earn money on the side creating images for others. Photography and videography are also in high demand online.

As you look for something you can do from home, avoid any programs that claim that you can earn thousands of dollars for just a few hours of work each month. Working from home, especially part time, is going to require some extra effort and motivation, and it is not going to bring in the big bucks in most situations. It can, however, give you the money you need to pay that one last bill that you just can’t squeeze out of your paycheck.

Opportunity to Stay Home be a Virtual Assistance

Single Moms Opportunity to Stay Home with Their Kids

Many single mothers need to work in order to provide for their families, but virtual assistance helps provide one with the ability to work at home and stay with her child.

In November 2007 just before her new son was born, Tia Peterson, soon to be a new single mother, made the decision that she would stay home to raise her son. She began freelancing as a virtual assistant and has never looked back. Instead, she has moved on to form a virtual assistance firm called All American Admin http://www.allamericanadmin.com as a means of providing income while saving on daycare expenses.

“Virtual assistance can provide single mothers the opportunity to take control of their careers and income while saving money on daycare expenses,” explained Tia, mother of nearly 6-month old baby boy, Aidan. “It seems that most stay at home moms are part of two-income families. It’s an option that a lot of single mothers don’t think they have.”

Tia notes that she can save over $200 per week by keeping Aidan out of full-time daycare while she works from home – the nearest daycare center charges $213 per week for full-time infant care.

In her virtual assistance practice, Tia manages multiple clients and a small team of other virtual assistants as well. While she has not completely replaced her previous annual salary as a lead business analyst in the software development industry, she earns enough to provide for herself and her son and still have money in the bank at the end of the month.

“My ultimate goal has always been to not only make this work for myself, but to create an avenue of income for other mothers in a similar situation. All you need is a computer, internet connection, and the skills you’ve accumulated over the years working out of the home.”

The virtual assistance industry is dominated by married people – over 75% (source: 2006-2007 Virtual Assistant Industry Survey as conducted by the Virtual Assistant Chamber of Commerce), but the flexibility of virtual assistance can also provide single mothers with income and free time.

Tia is planning to continue to grow All American Admin into a thriving virtual assistance firm while at the same time seeking out, training, and inspiring other single mothers who wish to stay home with their kids in the business of virtual assistance.
